TRAGEDY: Groom killed few hours after wedding in Indiana ( READ )
A newly married man of only a few hours in Indiana was struck and killed by several vehicles along with the driver of a car whose vehicle had fallen into a ditch when he stopped to give aid to the stranded motorist.
According to reports, the brave victim, 49-year-old William Knight, was driving back with his new wife, Nikki after their wedding reception when he noticed another vehicle stuck in a ditch.
According to his distraught wife, her husband told her that they needed to stop and help the woman they had noticed because it was late and they obviously needed their help. She added that while her husband got out of the car to help, she stayed inside their car and waited.
The woman who Knight had gone to help, Linda Darlington, 42, was standing by the side of her vehicle along with the new groom when first they were hit by one oncoming car then another and another, according to Lake County Sheriff’s office.
Nikki, the new bride, who is also a registered nurse, says she heard a thud and then rushed out of their car to examine her husband and the woman. However, it was too late for both victims because neither the woman nor her husband had any pulse, she added.
According to the Lake County coroner’s office, both victims of the accident had been pronounced dead at the scene a little time later and according to autopsies performed, both Knight and Darlington had died of blunt-force trauma.
Nikki Knight said that everything seemed like a blur and she had gone from being a happily married woman to widow in just a few short hours. She added that her husband had served as a U.S. Army Ranger for about 12 years and he always helped others in need, even if it meant putting himself in danger.
According to police reports, all drivers involved in the accident had proved negative in tests for alcohol and they had all remained at the scene of the tragic deaths. No charges have been filed against anyone involved yet.
Apart from his new bride, the newly married groom has left behind two daughters, a stepdaughter and stepson.
