South-West PDP endorses Jonathan for second term




The Peoples Democratic Party, South-West Zone, has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in 2015.

The endorsement was agreed upon the party’s zonal stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos on Tuesday.

The motion for the adoption of the endorsement was moved by Chief Tola Odulaja from Ogun State   was unanimously supported by a voice vote from members present.

In a communique signed by the Chairman,  South-West Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Chief Ishola Filani, the zone said the endorsement was as a result of Jonathan’s leadership qualities and transformation efforts.


The communiqué reads in part, “After carefully X-raying the President’s qualities and in view of the fact that he is constitutionally qualified to seek re-election, the forum unanimously endorsed him for a second term in 2015.”

The meeting, however, passed a vote of confidence on Jonathan’s transformation agenda, the leadership roles of the National Chairman of the PDP, the National Working Committee and the Zonal Caretaker Committee of the party.

It commended Jonathan on the measures he had taken so far in tackling the current security challenges dogging the country.

Apart from endorsing President Jonathan for another term, the forum also appointed some party leaders as patrons.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was endorsed as the Grand Patron of the PDP in the South-West, while Shuaibu Oyedokun, Bode George, Yekini Adeojo, Bode Olajumoke, Jubril Martins-Kuye, Ebenezer Babatope were named as the party’s patrons, among others.

It agreed to work as a united entity for the success of the PDP in all forthcoming elections in Nigeria, commencing from 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states to the presidential and general elections in 2015.
